Vice President JD Vance leads a U.S. delegation to attend the inaugural Mass on Sunday of the first American pope.

As of my last knowledge update in June 2024, there has never been an American pope in history. The current pope is Pope Francis (born in Argentina), and no U.S.-born cardinal has been elected pope thus far.

If you’re referring to a hypothetical scenario where an American is elected pope and JD Vance (or another U.S. official) attends the inaugural Mass, that would be a significant historic event. However, as of now, this situation is purely speculative.
